Facility Assistant (Part-Time, As Needed)

Title: Facility Assistant

Classification: Part-time, Per Diem, Non-Exempt

Compensation: $20-22/hr. This position is not eligible for benefits, other than those mandated by law.

Anticipated Schedule: Variable, 10-30 hours per month beginning in September, 2025 for training prior to Brannan Center’s public opening in October. This part-time position has variable hours from week to week, as event schedules vary and may include daytime, evening, and weekend events. Call times are no earlier than 6am and shifts end no later than midnight.

ABOUT BRANNAN CENTER

Brannan Center is a new, non-profit community space and performing arts venue currently under  construction in Calistoga, the northernmost town of the Napa Valley. The mission of Brannan Center is to empower the greater UpValley community with opportunities to experience community programming and performing arts that celebrate culture and promote vitality in our region.

With a scheduled opening in October 2025, Brannan Center will be a contemporary, multipurpose building designed be a gathering place and home to many community groups who do not have adequate facilities for meetings and activities, a home for arts groups throughout the Napa Valley, and a destination for private events such as weddings, quinceañeras, and parties.

In addition to serving as a community center and special event venue, Brannan Center will also  present diverse, multidisciplinary arts performances, and produce (or co-produce through  partnerships with other organizations) enrichment programs such as classes, workshops, and  camps for everyone from children to seniors.

Brannan Center's facility – a restored and renovated 150-year-old church – comprises two  performance halls, three flexible spaces for meetings, classes, workshops, and conferences, a demonstration kitchen, and an outdoor terrace.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Facility Assistant is a part-time, hands-on role responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and functionality of the Brannan Center’s facilities. Working under the Technical and Facilities Manager, this position supports both daily operations and event needs by performing light maintenance, janitorial duties, and event setup and breakdown. Ideal for a dependable, proactive individual with a flexible schedule, the Facility Assistant plays a key role in ensuring a welcoming and well-maintained environment for community events, performances, and rentals.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Facilities and Maintenance

  • Janitorial work as related to restrooms, floors throughout facility, and waste management
  • Assist with basic maintenance functions, such as replacing light bulbs, painting touch ups, and repairing minor damage.
  • Install facility equipment as needed, build and install furniture and office equipment
  • Landscaping maintenance including weeding, trimming, and drip irrigation troubleshooting

Event Support

  • Set up tables and chairs according to the event’s pre-determined floor plan
  • Striking and/or resetting tables and chairs between events
  • Waste management: emptying waste receptacles throughout the facility during events and assisting guests with proper sorting
  • Ensuring a clean and safe environment by promptly cleaning spills, wiping down tables and other event furniture and keeping them clear of debris, keeping restrooms clean and stocked, and maintaining egresses clear of furniture and event supplies

Other Duties

  • Assists with evacuation procedures during building emergencies
  • Responds to emails from Brannan Center staff in a timely manner
  • Participates in staff meetings and organizational planning as assigned
  • Additional responsibilities and tasks as necessary and assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and characteristics:  

  • Required: Ability to work a flexible schedule that will include early mornings, nights, and weekends
  • Minimum one year of event space work, facility maintenance, and/or custodial experience
  • Proactive with close attention to detail, interest in learning new skills
  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks and meet deadlines independently
  • Ability to operate various equipment necessary for the maintenance of the facility
  • Ability to work at height on ladders
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, pull, and move heavy furniture and equipment (up to 50 lbs.)
  • Ability to climb stairs and ramps, walk or stand for extended periods of time, and reach overhead
  • Able to troubleshoot and make sound independent decisions
  • Proactive approach to solving problems and creating solutions
  • Demonstrates support and enthusiasm for Brannan Center’s mission to clients, public and staff
  • Comfortable with Mac computers, Microsoft Office, Internet and email

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong preference for candidates who are bilingual in English and Spanish
  • High School diploma or equivalent preferred
  • A sense of humor. Preferably dry

Certifications

  • First Aid/CPR

Physical Requirements

  • Motor coordination and the ability to lift or move up to 50 lbs
  • Ability to sit and stand, sometimes for extended periods
  • Ability to work in indoor and outdoor environments, sometimes on ladders up to 14 feet
