Prerequisites: While a basic grasp of the Italian language would be helpful in this class, no prior experience is necessary and we encourage anyone with interest in Italian language and culture to enroll.
Step into the rhythm of Italy in this Italian Culture & Conversation class, designed for students with a range of experience and ability with the language. This course goes beyond textbooks, immersing students in authentic, real-world Italian through lively conversations, interactive activities, and engaging role-plays. We’ll explore travel, food, traditions, and everyday life in Italy while building fluency, refining pronunciation, and strengthening listening skills. In a fun, supportive, and energetic environment, students are encouraged to speak boldly, think in Italian, and truly connect with the language. Join us for an exciting linguistic journey that will transform your Italian from studied to spoken—and make every class feel like a mini trip to Italy!
MEET THE INSTRUCTOR
Carlo Di Fede is proud that he was born and raised in Italy, and has a deep passion for his Italian heritage. Carlo’s enthusiasm for the Italian language, culture, art, architecture, and, of course, cuisine, is something he is eager to share with others. Carlo holds a Bachelor of Architecture degree from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and has dedicated the past 35 years to practicing architecture in the Valley. He has taught conversational Italian at Cal Poly for students preparing to study abroad, and also introduced those students to Italian culture and traditions. He looks forward to bringing his rich background and love for Italy to this Culture & Conversation class.

Carlo Di Fede se enorgullece de haber nacido y crecido en Italia, y siente una profunda pasión por su herencia italiana. El entusiasmo de Carlo por el idioma, la cultura, el arte, la arquitectura y, por supuesto, la gastronomía italiana, es algo que le apasiona compartir con los demás. Carlo tiene una licenciatura en Arquitectura de Cal Poly San Luis Obispo y ha dedicado los últimos 35 años a ejercer la arquitectura en el Valle. Ha impartido clases de italiano conversacional en Cal Poly para estudiantes que se preparaban para estudiar en el extranjero, y también les ha presentado la cultura y las tradiciones italianas.
